State Election 2015 Campaign
NB: The state election campaign 2015 is over.
Please join our current campaign calling on the Minister for the Environment to stop the new road proposed for the Royal National Park and the proposed clearing of thousands of trees inside the Park and on the former Scout land for a recreation camp at Spring Gully. Stop the chop! Don’t Spoil the Royal.
What we achieved
- Dedication of the Jibbon Hill lands (8.5 hectares) to the Royal National Park (see area marked in green on the location aerial to the right).
- E2 Environmental Conservation zoning for the former Scout land.
What still needs to be achieved
- State government agreement for the former Scout land to be added to the land reservation acquisition map in the Sutherland Shire Local Environment Plan for acquisition and addition to the Royal National Park,
- State government acquisition of the former Scout land for addition to the Royal.
Original Campaign (March 2015)
Key decisions for the conservation of Spring Gully are now in the hands of Pru Goward, Minister for Planning and Rob Stokes, Minister for the Environment and Heritage and Assistant Minister for Planning.
Now is the time to seek a commitment from the NSW government for the conservation of Spring Gully.

Dear Minister Goward
I support:
- Sutherland Shire Council’s recommendation that the former Scout land, Spring Gully, Bundeena be acquired for addition to the Royal National Park and their request that the land be placed on the land reservation acquisition map in the Local Environment Plan currently being finalised by your department.
- The NSW Office of Environment and Heritage recommendation that “eco-tourism facilities” be removed as a permissible use for this highly ecologically valuable, bio-diverse, riparian land.
- Council’s offer of 8.5 hectares of adjoining bushland and upland swamp for addition to the Royal National Park.
Can you please advise whether these recommendations will be adopted in the local environment plan? After exhibition of three drafts and an independent review, I request to know the government’s plans for the future of these lands prior to the upcoming State election.
